Race is the main factor of a person’s identity. Even though we strive for equality people
still experience inequality. In the
United States Caucasian is the favored race and those who are not white experience
discrimination. We see this in the
education system and the work force.
Many white children have better access to schools and receive better
education and many white males receive better salaries and higher positions
than other races. However, I don’t think
we should be defined by the color of our skin.
The United States is a melting pot and in this day and age people are a
combination of many different nationalities.
This is why I think the Census Bureau should allow people to mark multiple
races. Just because someone looks a
certain way doesn’t mean we can stereotype and place them in a certain
category. Too often we look at someone
and immediately judge them by their race.
Unfortunately, I don’t think there will ever be a time when we look at
someone and judge them by who they are not what they look like.
When I read the second sentence of your post, I couldn't have said it better myself. I strongly agree with you when you stated that even though we strive for equality, many people still experience inequality. I believe that race should not be a way to classify and categorize individuals. Although racism is not strongly seen, as it was in other generations, I still believe there are people out there who are racist and treat others differently just because of the certain race they are.
